Traveling to Italy
There are three airports you can fly into to ultimately get you to Florence.
Rome: Roma Fiumicino “Leonardo Di Vinci” International Airport (FCO)
Milan: Milano Malpensa International Airport (MXP)
Florence: Amerigo Vespucci Airport (Not Direct)
Not a direct flight? We recommend connecting in Europe instead of the U.S. for customs purposes.
Passport Expiration
Please check your passport’s expiration date prior to booking your flights. If your passport is set to expire prior to January 1, 2027, we encourage you to renew your passport prior to 2026.
The European Union requires your passport to be valid at least six months past the date of your initial flight.
Traveling to Florence
Many people prefer to fly into Milan or Rome instead of Florence as ticket prices are more affordable and there are direct flights. If that is the case for you, there are multiple ways to get to Florence.
Train
Want a comfortable yet effective way to get to and from? We recommend booking your train ticket with Trenitalia. They offer high speed trains from both Rome and Milan to Florence.
P.S. Make sure you are booking the fast train.
Roma Termini - Firenze S. M. Novella (1 Hour and 36 Minutes)
Milano Centrale - Firenze S. M. Novella (1 Hour and 54 Minutes)

Rental Car
Another great option to get to Florence is to rent a car and pick it up at the airport. We recommend Europcar for car rentals.
Rome - Florence (3 Hours and 15 Minutes)
Milan - Florence (4 Hours)

International Driving Permit (IDP)
If renting a car in Italy, you will need an International Driving Permit (IDP.) The American Automobile Association (AAA) is the official organization authorized by the U.S. Department of State to issue IDPs. You can apply in person at an AAA branch or through mail (to the AAA office nearest you) by sending:
Completed IDP application: https://www.aaa.com/vacation/docs/IDP_Application2a.pdf
Two original passport pictures signed on the back
$20 USD permit fee (plus sales tax)
A Photocopy of both sides of your driver's license
Please note, the IDP needs to be issued less than six months prior to when you plan on using it.

Traveling to Tuscany
The venue and all accommodations are about a 20 minute drive from the Florence city center. There are two options
Rental Car
Getting a rental car for the two days we are in Tuscany allows you the freedom to explore Tuscany during your free time. We recommend booking with Europcar, see above.
Please note, you will need an International Driving Permit (IDP) to rent a car.
Taxi/Uber
You can get to Tuscany by taking an Uber/Taxi. The Uber app has a Taxi option that we prefer to use when in Italy. Otherwise there are Taxi apps or you can ask your hotel in Florence to call one for you. A normal sized taxi should be around 30-50 Euro for the drive into the country.
Please note, once in Tuscany, Taxis/Ubers can take longer to arrive.
